Build, Grow, and Elevate your Restoration Company

By building something bigger than yourself, you grow, and in turn elevate those around you. Sounds easy, but some ceilings have to be broken first.
The DYOJO Podcast, Episode 61 Guests:

● Lance Peppler - Host of the Business Bookshelf Podcast based out of Johannesburg, South Africa. His podcast is a great way to find your next book for business improvement.

● Josh Zolin is the CEO of Windy City Equipment Service (Phoenix, AZ) and host/author of Blue is the New White (Book)(Podcast) Blueisthenewwhite.com

Lance's Top 5 Books for people in a position of leadership and entrepreneurs for 2021

  • Trusted Leader by David Horsager
    • The Eight Pillars of Trust. Every problem that we encounter can find its root in broken trust. This book helps identify the issues, and navigate to a better position.
  • The Art of Alignment by Art Johnson
    • The NINE Pillars of Alignment! After reading these two first books, you’ll be able to build your own Coliseum. On a serious note, this book lets you set up a checklist, and if you can fill out all nine, then your business is on the right track.
  • The Feeling Economy by Dr. Roland Rust
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in our future. As AI takes away jobs, it will be the human factor of empathy that will become crucial for customers.
  • All the Brains in the Business by Kate Lanz
    • This book explains that for a business to succeed in this ‘feeling’ economy, a higher empathy threshold is needed.
  • Overcome by Jason Redman
    • When you are dealing with an ambush in your life, the only thing to do is R.E.A.C.T. (Recognize, Evaluate, Assess, Choose, and Take Action). Everyone at some point in their life has been ambushed, and this book highlights the tools that are needed to effectively address that fight or flight response.

Josh brings his wealth of knowledge to our listeners, and reminds us that most of the time we just need to KISS. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

  1. Why is it so hard to find talent?
    - The movement of introducing the trades to younger generations so they can realize their full potential.
  2. “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” and everything that entails.
    - Surprise, it usually means more work.
  3. Josh’s own journey from being a stuntman, to building a thriving service based business.
    - “The next generation doesn’t want a job, they want an opportunity to change the world.”
  4. Using the “C” word
    - Build the type of culture in your organization that people want to talk about. Create an environment that causes people to brag about where they work.
With a wide swath of information, the biggest encouragement is to never stop learning. This industry has given the gift of constant growth and upward mobility. The ceilings that have to be broken will never be the same, but the skills acquired along the way will aid in pushing through the next obstacle.

What will you put first as you grow?
People, Profit, or Process?

Next week (Episode 62) we’ll have Whiney Wiseman out of Florida. He is the founder of the National Organization of Restoration and Remediation Professionals (NORRP)
